What is Parent Coaching?
Parent coaching is a highly effective way to help parents come up with practical, long-term solutions to parenting challenges. It is conducted over 8 – 12 sessions, through a weekly phone or video call, scheduled at your convenience. One parent may take advantage of parent coaching or couples can participate together.
Underlying Principles
Appreciative Inquiry and Positive Psychology
I follow a strengths based process of personal change, rather than a purely ‘fix it’ approach. I want to empower you to rediscover your authentic voice as a parent.
Me (parent coach) + You (parent) → Your unique strengths → Empower you → Your vision of a better family life
Achieve Your Vision Using Your Strengths
You bring your expert knowledge about your family and I bring my professional expertise. I will listen empathically and compassionately as we work together to leverage your strengths in creative ways. In this way, we will seek to bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be.
Parent Coaching Is NOT Therapy
Parent coaching is about the day-to-day challenges in family life that don’t need healing, but new approaches. Therapy or counselling usually concerns healing of past emotional wounds. It may also involve current crisis situations such as marital difficulties, bereavements etc.
My Approach
Keep Things Simple
I believe that there should be absolutely no need for a script or strategy for every scenario that confronts you as a parent!
My aim is to help you get back to basics by trusting yourself.
I want to assist you in uncovering your own techniques and tools that you can rely on in your parenting journey.
Deep, Lasting Change
We will look at you holistically as a person. We will tease out ways to optimize all that is good in your life.
Through this process, we will aim to overcome the challenges you face and improve your family dynamics.
On this exciting journey, you are the captain, with an affirming navigator by your side.
No Quick Fixes
The coaching is designed to affect deep, transformational change and commitment to the entire process is needed to get the benefits.
